Community Service Scholarship

GreenMatch Community Service Scholarship – Winner for 2018

GreenMatch thanks all the applicants for their participation in the community service scholarship. We received plenty of applications with extraordinary stories which made it quite difficult to choose one winner.

The winner for GreenMatch Community Service Scholarship 2018 is Muhammad Kashif Khalil.

He has develop a non-profit initiative which diverts the edible excess food from local businesses and distribute it to social agencies. It provides an efficient method of communication between businesses with surplus food and community centres. In under one year, their initiative has diverted over 3000 lbs of food from the landfill and donated it to local social agencies.

By doing this I aim to achieve two goals: (1) promote food security and (2) protect the environment by reducing the amount of edible food that ends up in the landfill because organic waste can take years to decompose; in the process it releases high levels of greenhouse gases that changes our climate and damages ecosystems.

Greenmatch congratulates the winner and wishes the best in his future endeavours.

GreenMatch believes in sustainability and promoting greener living. In an effort to encourage and empower young individuals to play their part in helping the community through green activities and initiatives, GreenMatch would like to award a student with a scholarship of £1,000 for excellence in green initiatives.
