Sharp Solar Panels

There are two types of solar panels, that Sharp has developed for their customers:

  • Polycrystalline solar cells—ND series
  • Thin-film solar cells—NA series

Both types are designed to withstand harsh operating conditions and deliver high power output. Polycrystalline cells are very efficient, while thin film models are the thinnest on the market, offering great wind resistance. Read below about the technical features and characteristics of each panel.

Features and Efficiency

Depending on the solar panel, Sharp’s PV modules have an efficiency from 14% to 15.2%. In addition, Sharp Solar PV panels are able to withstand potential induced degradation (PID). Thin Film models are composed of two glass layers laminated with a vapor barrier encapsulant. Thin film models can be installed in portrait or landscape mode. Their efficiency is not that great—only 9.6%. However, this is the best efficiency you can get amongst thin-film PVs. The depth size of these panels is very slim, only 6.7 mm. This will make the panel easier to install and give the property a more appealing look. Besides, slimmer panels are more wind resistant.

Warranty

The company guarantees 10 years for the product and 25 year linear performance. During the first year, you can expect the solar panels to perform at minimum 96% of the specified minimum power output. For the following 24 years there will be a maximum 0.667% annual reduction of the power output. This is a pretty good performance for the PV cells compared to others in the industry.

Return on Investment

The average time to recuperate your investment when buying Sharp Solar panels is on average 20 years. Keep in mind that this is calculated without taking into account the Feed-in Tariff. The Feed-in tariff will pay for the electricity you generate and export it to the grid; this will cut the time of return up to half, which is a 10-year reduction overall. In April 2019, though, the FIT scheme came to an end, and no new registrations are accepted. All installations prior to the closure will still receive the payments.
